What’s in a Name?

Originally my store was going to be called Outback Craftaholics. Why, I hear you ask? Because I have lived most of my life, and done most of my crafting, in the Pilbara (in the Northwest of Western Australia). I have crafted in Port Hedland, Marble Bar, Karratha, Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Pannawonica and Newman. I still consider the Pilbara to be ‘home’ and have treasured memories of crafting with friends and family there over the years.

One of the reasons for starting my store was to bring more choice to the Pilbara community in terms of materials, tools and workshops for various crafts. However, following an unexpected pregnancy we chose to stay in Perth and I decided to start out as an online store. Outback Craftaholics no longer seemed to be quite the right name.

It took a while to come up with our new name. I wanted something that suited both quilting and embroidery as these are the two core crafts we will be focussing on. I also wanted something that captured the warmth of friendships created through crafting, the depth of creativity and inspiration available to us, and the stories that are built into our creations with each stitch. I started thinking of the different layers each craft incorporates – both physically and figuratively – and Layered Creations was the obvious choice.

Whether you live in Perth, the Pilbara, or somewhere else entirely we would be happy to assist you with your quilting, embroidery and other sewing needs. Visit our store to choose from our growing range of fabrics, patterns/books, tools and more. Or contact us to ask a question, share your experiences, or simply say hello.
